Drawn from the best authorities of its era and engraved with extraordinary care, this double hemisphere world map presents the entire known world in two elegant circular panels. Published for the New Encyclopedia by I. Low of New York, it captures a pivotal moment in cartographic history — when explorers were still filling in the edges of the map and regions like New Holland (Australia) were only beginning to take shape in the Western imagination.

The Western and Eastern hemispheres sit side by side within ornate circular borders marked with precise degree gradations. Soft pastel washes of pink, green, yellow, and blue distinguish continents and territories, while ocean names — Pacific, Atlantic, Southern, Eastern, and Indian — spread gracefully across open waters. Geographic labels include the Russian Empire, West Tartary, the Mogul Empire, and the familiar outlines of North and South America. Latitude references — the Equinoctial Line, Tropic of Capricorn, Arctic and Antarctic Circles — are rendered with scholarly precision, and meridian lines radiate outward from each pole in perfect symmetry.

Gallery-wrapped stretched canvas uses the same high quality canvas as Rolled Canvas canvas but mounted over 1 1/4" kiln dried pine stretcher bars. The image is extended and wrapped to show on the sides for a clean modern look.
