Nearside Mosaic
Nearside Mosaic
Every crater tells a story billions of years in the making. Nearside Mosaic is a stunning black-and-white fine art print derived from the WAC Nearside Mosaic — a seamless, high-resolution map of the Moon's nearside assembled from approximately 1,300 images captured by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Wide Angle Camera in December 2010.
The full lunar disk is rendered in exquisite detail against a pure black background. Dark maria — including Mare Tranquillitatis and Mare Imbrium — sweep across the surface alongside ancient highland regions and countless impact craters of every scale. Brilliant ray systems radiate outward from younger craters such as Tycho and Copernicus, tracing the Moon's long and violent history across its face.
Scientific in origin, deeply artistic in effect, this print brings a contemplative, awe-inspiring presence to any space — from a home study or library to a modern living room or professional office. It is equally at home among collectors of fine photography and admirers of space science.
